WSU Home Opener and Snow!

Uncle Trek had his first home game at WSU yesterday. The weather was predicted to be snowing, and snow it did! The game ended up being cancelled before it even started. The kids were so bummed but the game on Sunday will now be a double header with clear skies in the forecast, so we might head up again. Parker was SO happy to see snow again. Callie cried in the car because she was so cold. lol.

Balance

When I think of balance, I think of harmony. You know, the ying and the yang. The black and white. I think of two extremes pulling me in opposite directions and me sitting in perfect meditation, eyes closed, legs criss-crossed, saying "oooohhhmmmmm". Now that would take some serious balance. Or maybe that's inner peace. Either way, you gotta have balance to maintain your sanity.

As far as balance goes, this is something I definitely struggle with. In some areas of my life, I think I have really good balance. I try to have strong morals and values without judging other people for their choices. I appreciate getting out of the house a couple times a week to go to work and use my education, so I work part time. I think I'm good at balancing my time and attention with both of my kids. I think I rock at having fun and being free spirited and being realistic.

However, there are absolutely areas I need to work on having balance: not worrying/thinking about things I can't control, for example. I tend to get pretty worked up about the other people's behavior or the course of events that I cannot determine. I need to let some of that go. Also, I get what Cory would say "psycho" about cleaning and throwing things away. I know he means that jokingly (I think), but there the majority of the time I just go on crazy cleaning sprees once a day instead of picking up throughout the day. Another area I need to have balance is with exercise and diet. I think I'm starting to FINALLY get the grasp of this. I think probably 80% of the time, I'm making healthier choices than I normally would have in the past. I'm making more of an effort to exercise in a more balanced way, not feeling bad about myself if I don't workout 4-5 days a week.

Finding balance is tough. It's something I think we all work on probably thoughout life. Kids, jobs, spouses, money, health...these are continually evolving and changing, so it's natural to always be reassessing, re prioritizing, and reorganizing and seeking symmetry.

Is there an area in your life you need more balance? What parts in your life are you successfully balancing?

Sweat It Out

Tonight I got my sweat on as per my blogging assignment. It was good times. Me, the treadmill, Marvin. Yep, Marvin. He's my new boy toy.

Seriously, I've been going to this gym for years and it's had the same fan this whole time. Just noticed he has a name. I've been so rude!

Okay, I MIGHT be a weirdo. So, I ended up doing a run/walk cycle of 5 minutes to 1. I did this for 30 mins, which ended up being about 2.4 miles. Luckily, I didn't have to sweat too much. Thanks Marv!

I wonder if the treadmill has a name!

OUTSIDE

How amazing does it feel to be outside?! I'll tell ya right now. ah.maze.eeeng! The weather has been so unbelievably nice this weekend, we spent most of it outside... well, as much as we can for February.

Today the kids, Gram, Caw, and I decided to go hike Badger. The kids were champs and made it all the way to the top. I was VERY impressed. Parker was Parker and had ADD the whole way up- stopping to draw in the dirt, kicking rocks and dirt, taking lots of rests and water breaks. He kept asking "How many more minutes?!" On the way down, he really really had to go potty, so that was kind of torturous for the poor guy. Probably the longest 10 minutes of his life!

Callie conned Caw into carrying her for a good part of the way, but really did most of it herself, even running at times. She did great and really, they both were troopers.

I had explained to them a bunch of times prior to leaving that this hike wasn't easy and they would have to work hard to make it to the top, but they REALLY wanted to do it. Afterwards, they both told me it was harder than they thought it would be. Parker said he didn't want to hike the big mountain again until he is all grown up. I'm sure proud of them though.

Good Morning.

Family

I wanted to skip yesterday's blog assignment of "family" because today is the Father/Daughter ball! Could I have asked for a better reason to blog about my adorable little family?! Callie got ready at a salon where they were having a special for little girls attending the ball. The could get their hair done, a manicure, and light makeup, plus a rose. It was so sweet!

We all went out to dinner together, then Cory and Callie headed to the ball. They had a wonderful time.

Parker and I went to the planetarium to catch a double feature. We both thought it was pretty amazing. What a great night!
